Wicked Child - Opening Night

Zoetic Stage and Adrienne Arsht Center present a World Premiere by David Rosenberg. When Ben leaves his lucrative associate’s job at a New York law firm to join the Israeli Defense Force, his family must reexamine its secular Jewish identity and positions on the state of Israel. Wicked Child is a play about how politics can test familial bonds and what we owe our community.

Miami Jewish Film Festival

The Miami Jewish Film Festival, America’s largest Jewish film festival, will host a hybrid program for its 26th Edition featuring more than 70 in-theater screenings at seven venues across Greater Miami at a variety of locations, including Miami Beach, Coral Gables, and North Miami. Running from January 12-26, 2023, the festival will screen 88 feature and 17 short films representing 25 countries, including 9 world premieres, 12 international premieres, 12 North American premieres, and 4 US premieres. The lineup holds 33 first-time feature filmmakers and an unprecedented 34 films directed by women.

Old Wicked Songs - Preview Performance

GableStage presents the Miami premiere of Old Wicked Songs. As this play unfolds through the poetry of Heinrich Heine and the music of Robert Schumann, secrets are revealed, and two men from different generations find they have much more in common than they think. Directed by playwright Jon Marans, this 1996 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize is a play with music that stars two actors who are classically trained pianists.

Laurie Simmons: Cowboys & Color Interiors, Opening Reception

Andrew Reed Gallery presents Laurie Simmons: Cowboys & Color Interiors, a mini survey of the artist’s Big Figures, early Color Interiors, and Color Coordinated Interiors series. These photographs, created in the 1970s and 80s, laid the groundwork for Simmons to be considered amongst the most important photographers of her generation.

Art Deco Weekend - Talks at The Wolfsonian

Every January, The Wolfsonian-FIU partners with the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) to bring you a day of stimulating talks as part of Art Deco Weekend. This year, the roster features Wolfsonian curator Lea Nickless and two guest speakers, each delving into different facets of Florida's architectural history and the importance of historic preservation. PAMM Free Second Saturdays with BollyJazz

The Perez Art Museum Miami offers free admission every second Saturday of the month. This month, they're also hosting a BollyJazz workshop class with Pooja Uberoi from IKIGAIUSA. Bollywood dance is a mix of dance styles performed in Bollywood films, including traditional Indian styles of Bharatanatyam, Kathak, folk styles, and modern jazz, hip-hop or belly dance.

Beethoven 9: Ode to Joy

New World Symphony returns with another bucket-list concert to jump start your new year. Celebrate the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony – a divine tour de force – brought to life by award-winning soloists, full orchestra and the Master Chorale of South Florida. Continue your spiritual journey with an excerpt from the 2023 Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Omar, a miraculous “melting pot inspired by bluegrass, hymns, spirituals and more” (The New York Times). The large brass section in Leoš Janáček’s Sinfonietta heralds one of NWS’s most anticipated concerts of the season.

Glimpses of a Living Culture

Miami Symphony Orchestra presents an evening of Mendelssohn and Elgar, plus the world premiere of a new MISO-commissioned work by American composer Karen LeFrak. Guiding this symphonic exploration is Maestro Eduardo Marturet, MISO’s music director and conductor, who is proud to perform yet another world premiere, Miami Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra, with great guitarist Sharon Isbin as soloist.

In-Person: An Evening with Amy Fleisher Madden & Geoff Rickly

Books & Books is thrilled to present an evening with Amy Fleisher Madden & Geoff Rickly discussing her heartwarming and insightful book: Negatives: A Photographic Archive of Emo (1996-2006) (Chronicle Books, $45.00). A gorgeous hardcover time capsule of the emo music scene as it was from 1996 to 2006, featuring never-before-seen photographs and never-before-told stories from key emo musicians, photographers, and icons.
