An Evening with David Finkel and David Lawrence, Jr.
Books & Books is proud to present an evening with Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist David Finkel, discussing his new book, An American Dreamer: Life in a Divided Country. The book follows an Iraq war veteran struggling to cope in an America that seems to be unraveling in front of his eyes. The author will be in conversation with David Lawrence Jr., former publisher of the Miami Herald and current chair of The Children's Movement of Florida. Rsvp required.

Wednesday, February 28th
Jazz Series at Faena: Nicole Zuraitis
As part of its spring Jazz Series, Faena Theater presents Nicole Zuraitis in concert. Hailed for her "heart as big as her remarkable voice", her most recent album, How Love Begins, just won the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album. This concert marks her first performance in Miami, but surely not her last.

Between Latitudes: Luján Candria and Marina Gonella
The Collective 62 presents Between Latitudes, an artistic dialogue between artists Luján Candria and Marina Gonella, both originally from Buenos Aires and now residents of Miami. Both artists blend natural scenes from their contemporary surroundings with memories from home, using photography, painting and textiles to explore the experience of living in two places at one time.

Thursday, February 29th
Backroom Sessions at PAMM with Theo Braun Trio
Perez Art Museum Miami presents Backroom Sessions with the Theo Braun Trio on the waterfront terrace, plus happy hour specials at Verde restaurant and bar. Trained at The New School for Jazz, Theo Braun is a guitarist and composer who blends his passion for jazz with blues and contemporary music. This is a good opportunity to check out PAMM's current exhibits after hours, particularly Gary Simmons: Public Enemy.

Artist Talk: Reginald O'Neal with PAMM's Franklin Sirmans
Apple Aventura hosts Miami artist Reginald O’Neal, speaking about his influences and his work honoring Overtown. O'Neal will be in conversation with Franklin Sirmans, director of Pérez Art Museum Miami. The two will also be discussing the impact of Miami’s history on modern art. Q&A to follow. Rsvp required.

Friday, March 1st
Ballet Nacional de España
Ballet Nacional de España returns to the Arsht Center March 1st-3rd for the annual Flamenco Festival. Celebrating its 45th year, the company presents a program of classic 20th century works and contemporary choreography, all in their signature blend of flamenco and ballet, with traditional and contemporary flamenco accompaniment by some of Spain's best.

Montreux Jazz Festival
Since 1967, The Montreux Jazz Festival has taken place for two weeks every summer in Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva, now drawing 250,000 music lovers each year. Originally a pure jazz festival, Montreux branched out over the years to include a wider variety of music and hosted the likes of Elton John, Lauryn Hill, Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, James Brown, Kendrick Lamar, Leonard Cohen, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, Nina Simone and many more. Now, they've chosen Miami and the Hangar in Coconut Grove as the site of their first stateside festival. Headliners include Jon Batiste & Friends, Daniela Mercury, and Daryl Hall.

ICA First Fridays: Featuring Actress
ICA Miami's First Fridays are one of my favorite art events in town. Drinks and music are out in the sculpture garden, and you get to see the exhibits they have on in the museum after hours, all for free. In this case, the featured musician is Darren Cunningham, aka Actress, known for his "mind-shorting, soul-igniting audio experiences".

Omar Sosa: Quarteto Americanos
Latin Grammy-nominated Cuban composer and pianist Omar Sosa is one of the most versatile jazz artists on the scene today. Omar fuses a wide range of jazz, world music, and electronic elements with his native Afro-Cuban roots to create a fresh and original urban sound - all with a Latin jazz heart.

Nu Deco Ensemble with Andrew Bird

SK 3000: Andrew Demirjian & Dahlia Elsayed
Locust Projects presents SK3000, a large-scale interactive sculpture by artists Dahlia Elsayed & Andrew Demirjian. The project reinterprets the Islamic architectural form of a sabil kuttab, which traditionally holds a community fountain at the ground level with a school built on top. The artists reimagine its form and function for the future, in the context of privatization of water sources, democratic access to clean water, and as a learning space that resists education for productivity, profit, or politics.
